2 May 2012 ~ Wat Po's Reclining Buddha

Listening to: Don Williams ~ I Wouldn't Want to Live if You Didn't Love Me (20 Greatest Hits)

While in Bangkok we had a river view lunch consisting of fried fish, spring rolls, papaya salad and a fresh platter of tomatoes, cucumbers, and boiled eggs.

After lunch we went to Wat Po, the largest temple in Bangkok.

This was on Saturday, 28 April, which also happens to be Buddha's birthday. Wat Po is famous for the Reclining Buddha.

Before entering you are handed a bag to carry your shoes in (which saves you the trouble of remembering where you left them like at other temples).

This was by far the largest Buddha I've ever seen, measuring 46 meters long and covered in gold leaf.

Entering, you get a view of the head.

Here I am walking the full length of the temple; hope it gives some perspective on the size.

Then I finally make it to the end to get a complete view.

And the 3 meter feet are just beautiful.

Completely made out of mother of pearl, depicting various images of the Buddha.
