28 September 2015 ~ Dali Museum

Listening to: Gary Clark Jr. ~ Catfish Blues

We booked a full day trip to go to the town of Figueres, the hometown and now museum place of Salvador Dali. The morning was allocated to the museum.

Dali had his first art show here at the age of 15.

Not all of the art is on display here, as there are also museums in Paris and Florida.

He is also buried here.

This car was used by him and his wife to drive in private to a church to get married (they previously had been wed in a civil ceremony, but later in life became religious). The car has 2 mannequins inside representing them, and the car "cries" inside, to represent the tears falling from heaven to represent their love. Or so the guide told us. I think there are other interpretations on the internet.

The afternoon was spent in the seaside city of Cadaques, where Dali spent his summers growing up and in later years. There is only one road in or otherwise accessible by boat.

This rock in the harbor is represented in many of Dali's paintings and sculptures.

We had lunch at a seaside restaurant enjoying the view. I had scampi. Although not a typical choice for me, I wanted to try a traditional seafood dish.
