6 November 2013 ~ Drive to Marapouri
Listening to: Natural Child ~ I Ain't Gonna Stop (For The Love of the Game)
Happy Birthday!
One of the reasons I went to Queenstown was to take a day trip even further south in quest of seeing a penguin in nature. I chose as my destination Doubtful Sound, which is about a 2 1/2 hour drive south. To get there, we had to take a ferry from Marapouri (and then another bus trek before getting on the "real" boat).
Lovely scenery along the way.
Sheep are really everywhere. New Zealand has a people population of about 4.5 million and a sheep population of about 70 million.
The traditional Maori name for New Zealand translated is "Land of the Long White Cloud".
We passed through the small town of Mossburn. Tip Top is the famous creamery. I have yet to try their ice cream, but I'm told Hokey Pokey is an all time favorite (akin to toffee chunks in vanilla ice cream).
Finally, destination #1, and the boat from Manapouri to Doubtful Sound.
